Our Barbie Collection
The Barbie doll has been a toy staple since 1959. In 2009, Mattel introduced the Barbie Basics line. This line would be released in collections with each collection depicting a "basic" clothing staple. For example, the twelve models in Collection 001 each wore a different little black dress. The models in each collection feature different face sculpts, skin tones, and hair styles, lengths, and colors making for a diverse group of dolls. In addition to the twelve models each wearing a different outfit, four accessory packs were available for each collection. These accessory packs would include scarves, sunglasses, shoes, bracelets, handbags and other accessories that could help complete each look and make each outfit dramatically different by just changing the accessories.
A new collection is introduced each Spring. Midyear, a few extra models and accessory packs debut for each collection. These models feature the same clothing staple but with a little extra twist. Again for example, Collection 001.5 featured four models wearing simple black dresses but with pink ribbon accents.
Adding even more credibility, The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have backed the Barbie Basics line. The CFDA logo was included on early products in the line with the following paragraph printed below.
"The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. consists of the foremost American fashion and accessory designers. This trade association strives to advance the status of fashion design as a form of American art and to continue to raise its professional standards through scholarships, development programs, and awards. www.cfda.com."
Pretty impressive, eh? These Barbie Basics dolls are truly simple but stunning works of art.
